Narrative:

The ATIS, which was current when I checked in with the detroit approach controller, said 'visual approachs runway 5R, landing and departing runway 5L.' since runway 5R was the closest runway on my approach path to the airport, I was 'expecting' runway 5R. I was cleared for the visual approach runway 5L, and I wondered why runway 5L rather than runway 5R. After being handed off to the tower, I was told to 'turn into the airport now -- keep the turn up.' I had planned a downwind to allow for my descent from 4000 ft at 1000 FPM to be in a position for landing. After the tower's instructions to turn into the airport, I had to increase the descent rate significantly. After turning I aligned with runway 5R and mentally thought I was cleared by the tower for landing runway 5R. I was in the landing flare when the tower announced that I had been cleared for runway 5L not runway 5R and I should watch out for the truck off the side of the runway. Since the time that I had checked in with detroit approach the ATIS had been updated which said that runway 5R was closed. If I had questioned the clearance or asked if ATIS was still current this would have prevented the occurrence.

Title: BE55 PLT LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY AT YIP.

Narrative: THE ATIS, WHICH WAS CURRENT WHEN I CHKED IN WITH THE DETROIT APCH CTLR, SAID 'VISUAL APCHS RWY 5R, LNDG AND DEPARTING RWY 5L.' SINCE RWY 5R WAS THE CLOSEST RWY ON MY APCH PATH TO THE ARPT, I WAS 'EXPECTING' RWY 5R. I WAS CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH RWY 5L, AND I WONDERED WHY RWY 5L RATHER THAN RWY 5R. AFTER BEING HANDED OFF TO THE TWR, I WAS TOLD TO 'TURN INTO THE ARPT NOW -- KEEP THE TURN UP.' I HAD PLANNED A DOWNWIND TO ALLOW FOR MY DSCNT FROM 4000 FT AT 1000 FPM TO BE IN A POS FOR LNDG. AFTER THE TWR'S INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN INTO THE ARPT, I HAD TO INCREASE THE DSCNT RATE SIGNIFICANTLY. AFTER TURNING I ALIGNED WITH RWY 5R AND MENTALLY THOUGHT I WAS CLRED BY THE TWR FOR LNDG RWY 5R. I WAS IN THE LNDG FLARE WHEN THE TWR ANNOUNCED THAT I HAD BEEN CLRED FOR RWY 5L NOT RWY 5R AND I SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR THE TRUCK OFF THE SIDE OF THE RWY. SINCE THE TIME THAT I HAD CHKED IN WITH DETROIT APCH THE ATIS HAD BEEN UPDATED WHICH SAID THAT RWY 5R WAS CLOSED. IF I HAD QUESTIONED THE CLRNC OR ASKED IF ATIS WAS STILL CURRENT THIS WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THE OCCURRENCE.
