Narrative:

Level at FL230, center issued a climb to FL330. PNF set new altitude, PF confirmed verbally and selected appropriate autoflt mode for climb. However, it did not engage. Aircraft remained in level flight for an undetermined length of time until ZSE reclred aircraft to FL330. Climb was initiated and no traffic separation was lost. Contributing factors: autoplt complacency, failure to confirm aircraft's response to autoflt mode selection.
