Narrative:

Intercepting V459 at the above listed location, I received an engine fire indication (EICAS warning light and horn). I attempted to confirm this indication and also requested a diversion to a close-by airport from socal approach. I explained that the reason for the diversion was an engine fire indication, and was advised by approach that bur and vny were close, and I requested vectors to bur. Approach advised me that both bur and vny were VFR, and since I did not observe any other evidence of fire (instrument indication, visible smoke or fire, degraded engine or aircraft performance, etc), I elected to continue engine operation, expedite my descent and land. I felt that a controled descent and landing, under power, was the safest action, also considering the proximity of high terrain and a dense urban environment. The landing was uneventful, and the postflt inspection confirmed the lack of fire and malfunction of the fire warning system.

Title: A C208BG IN CRUISE AT 10000 FT DIVERTS TO BUR DUE TO ENG FIRE WARNING CAUSED BY A MALFUNCTIONING FIRE WARNING SYS.

Narrative: INTERCEPTING V459 AT THE ABOVE LISTED LOCATION, I RECEIVED AN ENG FIRE INDICATION (EICAS WARNING LIGHT AND HORN). I ATTEMPTED TO CONFIRM THIS INDICATION AND ALSO REQUESTED A DIVERSION TO A CLOSE-BY ARPT FROM SOCAL APCH. I EXPLAINED THAT THE REASON FOR THE DIVERSION WAS AN ENG FIRE INDICATION, AND WAS ADVISED BY APCH THAT BUR AND VNY WERE CLOSE, AND I REQUESTED VECTORS TO BUR. APCH ADVISED ME THAT BOTH BUR AND VNY WERE VFR, AND SINCE I DID NOT OBSERVE ANY OTHER EVIDENCE OF FIRE (INST INDICATION, VISIBLE SMOKE OR FIRE, DEGRADED ENG OR ACFT PERFORMANCE, ETC), I ELECTED TO CONTINUE ENG OP, EXPEDITE MY DSCNT AND LAND. I FELT THAT A CTLED DSCNT AND LNDG, UNDER PWR, WAS THE SAFEST ACTION, ALSO CONSIDERING THE PROX OF HIGH TERRAIN AND A DENSE URBAN ENVIRONMENT. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL, AND THE POSTFLT INSPECTION CONFIRMED THE LACK OF FIRE AND MALFUNCTION OF THE FIRE WARNING SYS.
