Narrative:

On climb out from paris, france, we received clearance to climb to FL300 by brest (france) ATC, and acknowledged same. At FL297 (29700 ft) ATC questioned our altitude, we advised climbing to FL300 as cleared. They advised our flight level should be FL280, and that FL290 or FL310 was correct for our area, requested FL310 and were cleared to FL310. There was no further comment from french ATC as to why they cleared us to FL300. Supplemental information from acn 476032: the questioning of the altitude came immediately after a frequency change. It seemed to me like it was a coordination problem with the 2 different ATC sectors.

THERE WAS NO FURTHER COMMENT FROM FRENCH ATC AS TO WHY THEY CLRED US TO FL300. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 476032: THE QUESTIONING OF THE ALT CAME IMMEDIATELY AFTER A FREQ CHANGE. IT SEEMED TO ME LIKE IT WAS A COORD PROB WITH THE 2 DIFFERENT ATC SECTORS.
