Narrative:

Passengers: father, mother, toddler boarded the a/C. They tried to place an evanflo carseat (aircraft approved). They proceeded to buckle the carseat in a window seat, per my instruction. The mother and father tried to secure it the armrest side of the window seat did not make for the seat to be secured tight and the toddler was not stable enough to situation in this situation. We could ot pull the strap tight enough - so I proceeded to remove the carseat and place a 3 year old in the seat, without a child restaint seat. If we had left the child in the carseat in the adjacent seat, the child's safety would have been compromised.callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information:the reporter stated that the canadair jet they were flying has two abreast seating on either side of the aisle and he designated far for FAA approved child car seats is the window seat on theat airplane. The seat belts are supposed to go through the bottom part of the child carrier and then be pulled tight. This seat as stated, wouldn't work, as the belt fould not be pulled tight..the reporter stated that she didn't have the time to check out the other, already occupied window seats, to see if this was a specific problem for this particular plane. She would like to know if this particular brand of car seat doesn't fit in any of the canadair jets or other types of aircraft.
