Narrative:

While under control with ZJX, we were given a descent from FL330 to FL270. In the cockpit busy with descent duties, the captain questioned the altitude, asked if it was FL280 or FL270. PNF confirmed FL270. ZJX then issued a turn to a heading of 160 degrees for a couple of mins. While on that heading we did see traffic left to right, then shortly after ZJX again gave us direct pie VOR. This was the second time given direct pie VOR. The first time was given 200 mi out (north) of pie VOR. Both crew members did not hear any crossing restr given! ZJX then told us 'miami would like to talk to you' on the appropriated frequency. On initial contact with ZMA, the controller asked if we were told to cross pie VOR at FL270. The PNF responded with a 'negative.' this started both crew members questioning if indeed we were given a crossing restr and we both missed it. If this were the case it would never have been read back to center, and I'm sure ZJX would come back and ask again if we copied the crossing clearance. This exchange never took place as the crossing restr never was issued. And again after given direct pie VOR after the 160 degree heading and back to pie VOR no crossing restr given. Nothing further was said from ZMA controller about if we were given a crossing restr. However, his tone and questioning if we were given a clearance to cross pie VOR at FL270 led us to believe he expected us to have received it. Either ZJX never issued that clearance or both crew members missed it.

Title: ON HDOF TO ZMA, CREW IS QUESTIONED ABOUT ASSIGNED ALT. THE ASSUMPTION IS ZMA IS EXPECTING A XING OF A FIX AT AN ASSIGNED ALT.

Narrative: WHILE UNDER CTL WITH ZJX, WE WERE GIVEN A DSCNT FROM FL330 TO FL270. IN THE COCKPIT BUSY WITH DSCNT DUTIES, THE CAPT QUESTIONED THE ALT, ASKED IF IT WAS FL280 OR FL270. PNF CONFIRMED FL270. ZJX THEN ISSUED A TURN TO A HDG OF 160 DEGS FOR A COUPLE OF MINS. WHILE ON THAT HDG WE DID SEE TFC L TO R, THEN SHORTLY AFTER ZJX AGAIN GAVE US DIRECT PIE VOR. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME GIVEN DIRECT PIE VOR. THE FIRST TIME WAS GIVEN 200 MI OUT (N) OF PIE VOR. BOTH CREW MEMBERS DID NOT HEAR ANY XING RESTR GIVEN! ZJX THEN TOLD US 'MIAMI WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO YOU' ON THE APPROPRIATED FREQ. ON INITIAL CONTACT WITH ZMA, THE CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE TOLD TO CROSS PIE VOR AT FL270. THE PNF RESPONDED WITH A 'NEGATIVE.' THIS STARTED BOTH CREW MEMBERS QUESTIONING IF INDEED WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR AND WE BOTH MISSED IT. IF THIS WERE THE CASE IT WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN READ BACK TO CTR, AND I'M SURE ZJX WOULD COME BACK AND ASK AGAIN IF WE COPIED THE XING CLRNC. THIS EXCHANGE NEVER TOOK PLACE AS THE XING RESTR NEVER WAS ISSUED. AND AGAIN AFTER GIVEN DIRECT PIE VOR AFTER THE 160 DEG HDG AND BACK TO PIE VOR NO XING RESTR GIVEN. NOTHING FURTHER WAS SAID FROM ZMA CTLR ABOUT IF WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR. HOWEVER, HIS TONE AND QUESTIONING IF WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO CROSS PIE VOR AT FL270 LED US TO BELIEVE HE EXPECTED US TO HAVE RECEIVED IT. EITHER ZJX NEVER ISSUED THAT CLRNC OR BOTH CREW MEMBERS MISSED IT.
