Narrative:

While climbing through 17000 ft around akuna intersection, fire APU alerted on MFDU, also on APU panel. Agent discharge switch was on and fire APU light went out and the APU shut down. We informed ATC of our need to return to dfw and have emergency equipment look at our APU area. We notified dispatch and contacted the flight attendants and informed the passenger. The landing was overweight, (91400 pounds) sink 200 FPM, with a smooth landing. No sign of fire was reported by emergency equipment, so we returned to the gate. Aircraft maintenance found no sign of fire. The aircraft was replaced and we continued to stl.
