Narrative:
While on with approach inbound on the 040 degree radial from the gfk VOR, my student and I were cruising at 2500 ft at about 9 mi north of the gfk airport. Encountered a very sudden rough running engine followed by a partial loss of power. Completed the items on the emergency engine failure checklist with no change with engine situation. Set the plane up for a power off landing on a road heading west.
