Narrative:

Location: rajay intersection. I was in the left seat flying with check airman in right seat. We had a clearance to FL370. ATC pointed out an A300 opposite direction at FL350. We both saw the A300 and TCASII gave us a TA. At the closest point he was 1200 ft above us and 3 mi to our right. I wondered why we had not been asked to level off while he passed. A short while later as we passed through about FL343, ATC asked us what our altitude was. Check airman replied FL342. ATC advised that we had been issued a temporary clearance to level at FL330. Check airman said no, that we were cleared to FL370. I remember the TA and check airman responding to same. At no time did I hear any change in our altitude clearance nor did I hear any readback from check airman. They advised us to call them when we got on the ground at sxm for possible altitude violation. About 30 mins later a new mia controller advised us that it would no longer be necessary to call. Supplemental information from acn 468703: miami said we were not cleared to FL370, when in fact we were.
