Narrative:

On return from jgg to ofp following james river (GPS not working) I may have already been in the outer ring of ric class C airspace when I called approach for VFR advisories. We were at 1500 ft, floor of stet ring is 1400 ft. On the way down to jgg I had relied on the GPS to keep clear of ric airspace while getting advisories. I did not notice that GPS was not working. I was describing the points of interest on the river to passenger when I should have been following more closely our position relative to the class C. I let the altitude creep up from 1200 ft to 1500 ft thereby possibly entering the floor of the class C a few seconds or mins before calling approach. Moral of story: pay attention to the flying first and history lesson second.
