Narrative:

On approach to dfw operating flight ab on 170 degree heading and descending to assigned altitude 5000 ft, flight ab given further descent to 4000 ft and left turn to 080 degrees. This clearance acknowledged by approach control from flight crew. Then approach called back and said clearance was not for flight ab and for us to return to 5000 ft. Flight ab in descent to 4000 ft passing 4700 ft, began return to 5000 ft. Before reaching 5000 ft, additional descent and vector and approach clearance received. Flight landed without incident. Note: another flight with ab in it (4 digit) was also on approach ahead of flight.

NOTE: ANOTHER FLT WITH AB IN IT (4 DIGIT) WAS ALSO ON APCH AHEAD OF FLT.
