Narrative:

Reserve rest. I was called to fly this trip at XA45 on the night before. It is an early sign in of XA00. If I lived at the airport I would have been able to get only 6 hours of sleep at the best. I do not feel that this is commensurate with safety. I feel the problem is in low manning for the schedulers. I was expected to show up for this trip rested and ready for a 10+ hour duty day. This trip was in open time for many days prior to this event. I should have been called at about XA00. If all this generated a big yawn, my copilot was new and on probation and was called at XB06 for the same flight. Anyone want to go to santo domingo with us. How about back to jfk.
