Narrative:

At end of cross country flight from cmh to hef, ran into moderate to severe turbulence when I descended below cloud level over mountains. Clouds by then were widely broken to scattered, and forecast had been for turbulence over mountains and low-lying hills. After handoff from dulles approach (VFR with flight following en route) to hef tower, was told to report 2 mi base for runway 34R. When I reported the 2 mi base, I was given an immediate landing clearance and saw not a single other aircraft in or near the pattern or moving on the ground. However, after turning onto final, I heard another aircraft call in for landing. It was just behind me but could not see me, even though I was now on short final and the tower had called out my position to that aircraft (another single engine aircraft). Tower told that aircraft he was #2 for landing behind me, a piper arrow. Over the numbers that aircraft finally said he saw me but apparently he was very close to me. Due to the strong winds and turbulence (winds 18 KTS gusting to 25-30 KTS), I came in 'hotter' than normal and with less than full flaps, causing me to balloon when I flared and also causing me to touch down faster than usual. After touchdown, the tower rushed me in the rollout, reminding me that the aircraft behind me 'really needed the runway.' having still a ways to go to the next 90 degree right angle turnoff, and thinking that the aircraft behind me may be having some difficulty as indicated by the controller's sound of urgency in rushing me off the runway, I added power and speed to the next exit making a faster than normal turn off the runway. This caused me to speed through the parallel taxiway and into the ramp area beyond. When I called ground control, he complained that I had gone into the 'movement area' without calling him first, and said that 'there could have been another aircraft there.' (I had taxied around this airport for over 10 yrs before it had a control tower and when it had much more moving aircraft than on this particular day.) however, I did not want to prolong the conversation, so I simply apologized and requested taxi clearance to the east ramp. I realize now that I was in the wrong. A rushed landing and a rushed taxi led to an inordinately fast rollout through the exit turn and into the ramp movement area without the required call to ground.

Title: A PA29 PLT, FEELING RUSHED BY THE TWR, CONTINUED TAXIING OFF OF THE RWY DIRECTLY TO THE RAMP, WITHOUT CONTACTING GND CTL.

Narrative: AT END OF XCOUNTRY FLT FROM CMH TO HEF, RAN INTO MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB WHEN I DSNDED BELOW CLOUD LEVEL OVER MOUNTAINS. CLOUDS BY THEN WERE WIDELY BROKEN TO SCATTERED, AND FORECAST HAD BEEN FOR TURB OVER MOUNTAINS AND LOW-LYING HILLS. AFTER HDOF FROM DULLES APCH (VFR WITH FLT FOLLOWING ENRTE) TO HEF TWR, WAS TOLD TO RPT 2 MI BASE FOR RWY 34R. WHEN I RPTED THE 2 MI BASE, I WAS GIVEN AN IMMEDIATE LNDG CLRNC AND SAW NOT A SINGLE OTHER ACFT IN OR NEAR THE PATTERN OR MOVING ON THE GND. HOWEVER, AFTER TURNING ONTO FINAL, I HEARD ANOTHER ACFT CALL IN FOR LNDG. IT WAS JUST BEHIND ME BUT COULD NOT SEE ME, EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOW ON SHORT FINAL AND THE TWR HAD CALLED OUT MY POS TO THAT ACFT (ANOTHER SINGLE ENG ACFT). TWR TOLD THAT ACFT HE WAS #2 FOR LNDG BEHIND ME, A PIPER ARROW. OVER THE NUMBERS THAT ACFT FINALLY SAID HE SAW ME BUT APPARENTLY HE WAS VERY CLOSE TO ME. DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS AND TURB (WINDS 18 KTS GUSTING TO 25-30 KTS), I CAME IN 'HOTTER' THAN NORMAL AND WITH LESS THAN FULL FLAPS, CAUSING ME TO BALLOON WHEN I FLARED AND ALSO CAUSING ME TO TOUCH DOWN FASTER THAN USUAL. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE TWR RUSHED ME IN THE ROLLOUT, REMINDING ME THAT THE ACFT BEHIND ME 'REALLY NEEDED THE RWY.' HAVING STILL A WAYS TO GO TO THE NEXT 90 DEG R ANGLE TURNOFF, AND THINKING THAT THE ACFT BEHIND ME MAY BE HAVING SOME DIFFICULTY AS INDICATED BY THE CTLR'S SOUND OF URGENCY IN RUSHING ME OFF THE RWY, I ADDED PWR AND SPD TO THE NEXT EXIT MAKING A FASTER THAN NORMAL TURN OFF THE RWY. THIS CAUSED ME TO SPD THROUGH THE PARALLEL TXWY AND INTO THE RAMP AREA BEYOND. WHEN I CALLED GND CTL, HE COMPLAINED THAT I HAD GONE INTO THE 'MOVEMENT AREA' WITHOUT CALLING HIM FIRST, AND SAID THAT 'THERE COULD HAVE BEEN ANOTHER ACFT THERE.' (I HAD TAXIED AROUND THIS ARPT FOR OVER 10 YRS BEFORE IT HAD A CTL TWR AND WHEN IT HAD MUCH MORE MOVING ACFT THAN ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY.) HOWEVER, I DID NOT WANT TO PROLONG THE CONVERSATION, SO I SIMPLY APOLOGIZED AND REQUESTED TAXI CLRNC TO THE E RAMP. I REALIZE NOW THAT I WAS IN THE WRONG. A RUSHED LNDG AND A RUSHED TAXI LED TO AN INORDINATELY FAST ROLLOUT THROUGH THE EXIT TURN AND INTO THE RAMP MOVEMENT AREA WITHOUT THE REQUIRED CALL TO GND.
