Narrative:

On the ground in luk was told by ground to taxi to runway 21L. There is a hold short area between the ends of runways 25 and 21L which are close together. You must cross runway 25 to get to runway 21L from the side of airport. There was a yellow sign that read hold here for runway 21L which was before you cross runway 25. The sic then informed me that there was a hold short area between the 2 runways. We taxied across and called the tower for ready to take off. He told us that we had just crossed an active runway and didn't we see the sign. The sic informed him that we understood that we were cleared to taxi all the way to runway 21L and be able to cross any other runways or txwys to get there, except for the active runway 21L. He said not to worry and gave us our takeoff clearance. Next time it would be best to follow the signage rather than relying on another pilot's experience with that airport as the standard. It was my first time there and although I still think we were correct in our actions, I should go the safest route and my instinct.

Narrative: ON THE GND IN LUK WAS TOLD BY GND TO TAXI TO RWY 21L. THERE IS A HOLD SHORT AREA BTWN THE ENDS OF RWYS 25 AND 21L WHICH ARE CLOSE TOGETHER. YOU MUST CROSS RWY 25 TO GET TO RWY 21L FROM THE SIDE OF ARPT. THERE WAS A YELLOW SIGN THAT READ HOLD HERE FOR RWY 21L WHICH WAS BEFORE YOU CROSS RWY 25. THE SIC THEN INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A HOLD SHORT AREA BTWN THE 2 RWYS. WE TAXIED ACROSS AND CALLED THE TWR FOR READY TO TAKE OFF. HE TOLD US THAT WE HAD JUST CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY AND DIDN'T WE SEE THE SIGN. HE SAID NOT TO WORRY AND GAVE US OUR TKOF CLRNC. NEXT TIME IT WOULD BE BEST TO FOLLOW THE SIGNAGE RATHER THAN RELYING ON ANOTHER PLT'S EXPERIENCE WITH THAT ARPT AS THE STANDARD. IT WAS MY FIRST TIME THERE AND ALTHOUGH I STILL THINK WE WERE CORRECT IN OUR ACTIONS, I SHOULD GO THE SAFEST RTE AND MY INSTINCT.
