Narrative:

Location: localizer runway 36L dfw. I was PNF and we were on runway 36L localizer at 3000 ft inside huton in VFR conditions, runway in sight. I armed the 2300 ft stepdown fix and PF started down early from 3000 ft after I misread DME for stepdown. He descended approximately 300 ft when I caught it. Climbed back up to 3000 ft and then continued approach. No conflict with any traffic was noted and ATC did not say anything.
