Narrative:
Altitude deviation. We departed ord and assigned 13000 ft. At 12500 ft, we were given a frequency change. The captain said '13' and I thought he was saying something about the frequency change and he had not responded to the controller. I became preoccupied with the frequency change instead of my altitude and I went to 13300 ft before I came back down to 13000 ft. Departure read the frequency again and reminded us of 13000 ft. The captain and I talked about priorities and I realized that when I am the PF I need to pay attention to the PF duties.

I BECAME PREOCCUPIED WITH THE FREQ CHANGE INSTEAD OF MY ALT AND I WENT TO 13300 FT BEFORE I CAME BACK DOWN TO 13000 FT. DEP READ THE FREQ AGAIN AND REMINDED US OF 13000 FT.
