Narrative:

We were inbound to ord from the south of the STAR. We were given a crossing restr of 45 mi south of ord at 11000 ft and the current altimeter. The altimeter setting the captain and I both thought we heard was 30.31. We both set 30.31 in our altimeters at FL180 and continued to 11000 ft. After leveling at 11000 ft the controller asked us to check our altimeter at 30.01. He said he showed us lower than 11000 ft. With the new setting we leveled at 11000 ft. The controller stated that it was not a problem. The captain and I both thought we heard 30.31 and we should have checked it with our ATIS information to verify. Lesson learned.
