Narrative:

While commencing approach into sfo in aircraft abcd as first officer with air carrier flight xyz, B737-300, we experienced a loud fluttering sound coming from #2 right engine. Engine indications showed no (zero) fuel flow into #2 engine. Decision was made to secure engine and use quick reference checklist. Decision to shut down #2 engine based on clear VMC day, good visibility, and close proximity to airport (over bridge FAF sfo runway 28R). Quick reference checklist stated to pull fire handle, which isolates hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, etc, therefore preventing possible fire. Emergency was declared and fire equipment was on stand-by and followed to gate for possible fire after landing. After landing on runway 28R we taxied to the gate without further incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter indicated that maintenance found a failed high pressure engine driven fuel pump. He commended the handling by sfo tower controllers and the service given by the sfo crash fire rescue equipment.

Title: B737 CREW HAD #2 ENG FAIL ON APCH TO SFO.

Narrative: WHILE COMMENCING APCH INTO SFO IN ACFT ABCD AS FO WITH ACR FLT XYZ, B737-300, WE EXPERIENCED A LOUD FLUTTERING SOUND COMING FROM #2 RIGHT ENG. ENG INDICATIONS SHOWED NO (ZERO) FUEL FLOW INTO #2 ENG. DECISION WAS MADE TO SECURE ENG AND USE QUICK REF CHKLIST. DECISION TO SHUT DOWN #2 ENG BASED ON CLR VMC DAY, GOOD VISIBILITY, AND CLOSE PROX TO ARPT (OVER BRIDGE FAF SFO RWY 28R). QUICK REF CHKLIST STATED TO PULL FIRE HANDLE, WHICH ISOLATES HYD, PNEUMATIC, FUEL, ETC, THEREFORE PREVENTING POSSIBLE FIRE. EMER WAS DECLARED AND FIRE EQUIP WAS ON STAND-BY AND FOLLOWED TO GATE FOR POSSIBLE FIRE AFTER LNDG. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 28R WE TAXIED TO THE GATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR INDICATED THAT MAINT FOUND A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE ENG DRIVEN FUEL PUMP. HE COMMENDED THE HANDLING BY SFO TWR CTLRS AND THE SVC GIVEN BY THE SFO CFR.
