Narrative:

The nosewheel barely on the ground dca tower said something like, 'if you can't make taxiway F, then turn on something else.' I do not remember what they said. In a 'hurry' to get off the runway as soon as possible we turned onto a runway, causing an aircraft landing there to go around. If they want us to turn somewhere we need to be told at a less critical time. I have not been to dca in months and do not have all the txwys memorized. It is a congested area, and more spacing and/or instructions must be given to enhance the safety of the operation at dca. Supplemental information from acn 454243: on rollout tower asked us to turn off on taxiway F if able, (something garbled), runway 21. We had passed taxiway F before tower finished talking. I had landed the aircraft and the captain took the aircraft and turned off onto runway 21. This is normal because aircraft are usually landing close behind on runway 19. Tower then asked us to hold short of runway 21. Tower then realized we were already on runway 21 and he gave an aircraft, on final to runway 21, a go around.

Title: A BOEING 727 FLC WAS ASKED TO CLR THE RWY AND TURNED ONTO ANOTHER RWY CAUSING AN ACFT TO GO AROUND AT DCA.

Narrative: THE NOSEWHEEL BARELY ON THE GND DCA TWR SAID SOMETHING LIKE, 'IF YOU CAN'T MAKE TXWY F, THEN TURN ON SOMETHING ELSE.' I DO NOT REMEMBER WHAT THEY SAID. IN A 'HURRY' TO GET OFF THE RWY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WE TURNED ONTO A RWY, CAUSING AN ACFT LNDG THERE TO GO AROUND. IF THEY WANT US TO TURN SOMEWHERE WE NEED TO BE TOLD AT A LESS CRITICAL TIME. I HAVE NOT BEEN TO DCA IN MONTHS AND DO NOT HAVE ALL THE TXWYS MEMORIZED. IT IS A CONGESTED AREA, AND MORE SPACING AND/OR INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE GIVEN TO ENHANCE THE SAFETY OF THE OP AT DCA. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 454243: ON ROLLOUT TWR ASKED US TO TURN OFF ON TXWY F IF ABLE, (SOMETHING GARBLED), RWY 21. WE HAD PASSED TXWY F BEFORE TWR FINISHED TALKING. I HAD LANDED THE ACFT AND THE CAPT TOOK THE ACFT AND TURNED OFF ONTO RWY 21. THIS IS NORMAL BECAUSE ACFT ARE USUALLY LNDG CLOSE BEHIND ON RWY 19. TWR THEN ASKED US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 21. TWR THEN REALIZED WE WERE ALREADY ON RWY 21 AND HE GAVE AN ACFT, ON FINAL TO RWY 21, A GAR.
