Narrative:

Upon lowering gear handle, nothing happened for about 5 seconds. Then the gear came down ok. After landing, first officer discovered auxiliary/xfer hydraulic pumps were off (should have been on per approach checklist). A logbook write-up was made. Contract maintenance signed off aircraft as ok due to our (aircrew) omission of the pumps during approach. Both of us were concentrating on descent profile and took it for granted that the other guy turned them on.
