Narrative:

VFR takeoff from yuba county airport, marysville, ca (myv), runway 32 at PM30. At an estimated 4000 ft of runway and 200 ft of altitude, sudden partial loss of engine power prevented maintenance of altitude. An emergency gear up landing was made on airport property beyond useable overrun. Damage: propeller, nose gear doors and some belly pan damage. There was no structural damage to the aircraft, and no property damage. Occupants: 2 people, the owner and a CFI. There were no injuries. Fuel: the 1.5 hour local flight began with 50 gallons of fuel. Aircraft was recovered with fuel tank selector found selected to the left tank with 25 gallons remaining. Fuel remaining in the right tank was estimated at 15 gallons. Cause of engine failure: no apparent cause was found with visual inspection. Diagnosis/dismantling pending. Airport safety deficiency: an open drainage ditch, approximately 25 ft wide and 12 ft deep, exists across runway 32 overrun, yuba county airport (myv). Recommend coverage of area in alignment with runway.
