Narrative:

Taxiing south on taxiway F, approaching K loop, told 'taxi shortest way' to runway 8L. Had previously been told to 'taxi runway 8L W1.' captain had no experience in europe, I over 2 yrs experience. Dark evening with no other ground traffic. On south side of K loop, told 'cleared for takeoff runway 8L.' stopped at approximately right turn on S1 (see attached chart). I thought we were at W1. Continued taxi and crossed runway 8L at S1 thinking the hold short lights we could see were for wy 8L -- they were for runway 8R. As we exited runway 8L sbound, flight engineer said 'I think we just crossed a runway.' stopped at S1. Informed ground of our location. Reclred back onto runway 8L on S2 for takeoff. Paris has unsatisfactory ground markings. Very confusing. Due to taxi route, we did not cross any stop bars! It was dark and no other aircraft to judge our location from. Ground was of no help. Confusion in cockpit. Captain was relying on me for ground guidance. To do again, I would have had captain stop plane and we would have discussed route he wanted to taxi to get to runway. No help from ground control. Unsatisfactory ground markings. Supplemental information from acn 451425: both copilot and myself have taxi chart out. We request further instructions 3 times during taxi. Copilot and I disagreed on which was shortest route. I wanted to go via W1, he via K3, W2 to W1. Supplemental information from acn 451276: it was dark, there were no red hold short lights on our route of taxi. The runway edge lights were off, and the centerline lights were not visible.
