Narrative:

Runway 9 was the departure runway but because of weight and performance numbers, I requested runway 4R. Approval was given before taxiing to runway 9. Because of landing traffic on runway 4R, clearance to take off was given rather quickly. All checks were done with ample time, but because of the runway change, we understood we were to fly the runway heading, and we did. After takeoff departure control said they had expected us to fly the original SID, which called for a right turn. No conflicts or other problems were encountered and we were given a left turn on course. That was the end of the situation. My recommendation: when there is a runway change, the tower should restate the desired departure instructions.

Narrative: RWY 9 WAS THE DEP RWY BUT BECAUSE OF WT AND PERFORMANCE NUMBERS, I REQUESTED RWY 4R. APPROVAL WAS GIVEN BEFORE TAXIING TO RWY 9. BECAUSE OF LNDG TFC ON RWY 4R, CLRNC TO TAKE OFF WAS GIVEN RATHER QUICKLY. ALL CHKS WERE DONE WITH AMPLE TIME, BUT BECAUSE OF THE RWY CHANGE, WE UNDERSTOOD WE WERE TO FLY THE RWY HEADING, AND WE DID. AFTER TKOF DEP CTL SAID THEY HAD EXPECTED US TO FLY THE ORIGINAL SID, WHICH CALLED FOR A R TURN. NO CONFLICTS OR OTHER PROBS WERE ENCOUNTERED AND WE WERE GIVEN A L TURN ON COURSE. THAT WAS THE END OF THE SIT. MY RECOMMENDATION: WHEN THERE IS A RWY CHANGE, THE TWR SHOULD RESTATE THE DESIRED DEP INSTRUCTIONS.
