Narrative:
I was holding at intersection K for runway 19R at sna. The tower was positioning a B737 on runway 19R at intersection left. I was observing this and expected to hold until they departed and then I would be directed to cross the right runway and depart on runway 19L. I heard the female controller say, 'aircraft X cross the right,' and I acknowledged, 'aircraft X crossing the right.' then I proceeded to cross runway 19R. As I was crossing I saw the B737 begin to move. I expedited my crossing and stopped between runway 19R&left and the female controller said, 'aircraft X what are you doing?' I said, 'you told me to cross.' then a male controller gave me instructions to make a 180 degree turn, then changed that to remain where I was and then I was cleared to take off on runway 19L and stayed in the pattern for practice lndgs as I had requested. I completed approximately 6 touch-and-goes and after departing the runway on final landing, a male controller gave me the phone number to call. I called and I was told I was not cleared to taxi across runway 19R. I asked what did the tape have. He said it only had my comment, 'you told me to cross' in response to the female controller's question to me. I have been flying out of sna for over 20 yrs and I am very familiar with the procedures here. I always read back tower instructions before executing any action. This incident could have been avoided if controller had stated I would be cleared to runway 19L after the B737 departed. This would have not set the scene for a misunderstanding.

Title: PLT IN A PA28 AT SNA CLAIMS THE CTLR ISSUED A CLRNC TO CROSS THE RWY AT AN INTXN. WHILE XING, A B737 WAS STARTING HIS TKOF ROLL.
Narrative: I WAS HOLDING AT INTXN K FOR RWY 19R AT SNA. THE TWR WAS POSITIONING A B737 ON RWY 19R AT INTXN L. I WAS OBSERVING THIS AND EXPECTED TO HOLD UNTIL THEY DEPARTED AND THEN I WOULD BE DIRECTED TO CROSS THE R RWY AND DEPART ON RWY 19L. I HEARD THE FEMALE CTLR SAY, 'ACFT X CROSS THE R,' AND I ACKNOWLEDGED, 'ACFT X XING THE R.' THEN I PROCEEDED TO CROSS RWY 19R. AS I WAS XING I SAW THE B737 BEGIN TO MOVE. I EXPEDITED MY XING AND STOPPED BTWN RWY 19R&L AND THE FEMALE CTLR SAID, 'ACFT X WHAT ARE YOU DOING?' I SAID, 'YOU TOLD ME TO CROSS.' THEN A MALE CTLR GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN, THEN CHANGED THAT TO REMAIN WHERE I WAS AND THEN I WAS CLRED TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 19L AND STAYED IN THE PATTERN FOR PRACTICE LNDGS AS I HAD REQUESTED. I COMPLETED APPROX 6 TOUCH-AND-GOES AND AFTER DEPARTING THE RWY ON FINAL LNDG, A MALE CTLR GAVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER TO CALL. I CALLED AND I WAS TOLD I WAS NOT CLRED TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 19R. I HAVE BEEN FLYING OUT OF SNA FOR OVER 20 YRS AND I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROCS HERE. I ALWAYS READ BACK TWR INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE EXECUTING ANY ACTION. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF CTLR HAD STATED I WOULD BE CLRED TO RWY 19L AFTER THE B737 DEPARTED. THIS WOULD HAVE NOT SET THE SCENE FOR A MISUNDERSTANDING.
