Narrative:

I was on flight following from bzn through mullen pass to ykm. ZSE passed me to grant county tower. Radio xmissions became broken and intermittent as usual in this area. (Poor reception from ATC south of spokane last 6 yrs (different radios) 15-50 mi). I signed off services in order not to tie up a controller and have to squawk 'lost communication code' as in previous flts. I reset navigation equipment while dealing with moderate turbulence due to large rain storm to my east, and overall mild turbulence in this area. I signed on with ykm tower who assigned a transponder code and then changed it after stating he (controller) could not read first digit of the code. He then instructed me to proceed to yakima to land. No mention of R6714 by ATC (grant county or yakima tower) led me to believe it was not active and as usual in my flts coast-to-coast I proceeded direct to ykm. After landing, I was instructed to call tower. Tower asked me to call grant county, which I did out of curiosity and courtesy. Controller said I 'had a bad attitude' which stunned me, then stated I had entered 'hot' R6714. 122.0 and 122.2 were not available in eastern montana.

Title: PVT PLT OF AN RV6 PENETRATED RESTR AIRSPACE DURING A VFR XCOUNTRY FLT AND DID NOT REALIZE IT UNTIL ASKED TO CONTACT ATC AFTER LNDG.

Narrative: I WAS ON FLT FOLLOWING FROM BZN THROUGH MULLEN PASS TO YKM. ZSE PASSED ME TO GRANT COUNTY TWR. RADIO XMISSIONS BECAME BROKEN AND INTERMITTENT AS USUAL IN THIS AREA. (POOR RECEPTION FROM ATC S OF SPOKANE LAST 6 YRS (DIFFERENT RADIOS) 15-50 MI). I SIGNED OFF SVCS IN ORDER NOT TO TIE UP A CTLR AND HAVE TO SQUAWK 'LOST COM CODE' AS IN PREVIOUS FLTS. I RESET NAV EQUIP WHILE DEALING WITH MODERATE TURB DUE TO LARGE RAIN STORM TO MY E, AND OVERALL MILD TURB IN THIS AREA. I SIGNED ON WITH YKM TWR WHO ASSIGNED A XPONDER CODE AND THEN CHANGED IT AFTER STATING HE (CTLR) COULD NOT READ FIRST DIGIT OF THE CODE. HE THEN INSTRUCTED ME TO PROCEED TO YAKIMA TO LAND. NO MENTION OF R6714 BY ATC (GRANT COUNTY OR YAKIMA TWR) LED ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS NOT ACTIVE AND AS USUAL IN MY FLTS COAST-TO-COAST I PROCEEDED DIRECT TO YKM. AFTER LNDG, I WAS INSTRUCTED TO CALL TWR. TWR ASKED ME TO CALL GRANT COUNTY, WHICH I DID OUT OF CURIOSITY AND COURTESY. CTLR SAID I 'HAD A BAD ATTITUDE' WHICH STUNNED ME, THEN STATED I HAD ENTERED 'HOT' R6714. 122.0 AND 122.2 WERE NOT AVAILABLE IN EASTERN MONTANA.
