Narrative:

While making approach to mfe, I reported the airport in sight. Approach cleared me for a visual and pointed out traffic at 12 O'clock above and climbing. I was then given tower frequency. The first officer was handling communications. We were scanning for the traffic and were on a close-in left base. I called for the visual approach check, followed by the landing gear down and landing check. Checklists were accomplished and a normal landing was completed. On rollout, the first officer informed me that we had not received landing clearance. She had not switched to the tower frequency. We then called the tower. After taxiing to the gate and completing shutdown and parking check, I went to operations and called the tower. We discussed the events and I was told there had been no conflicts but since I had landed on the active runway without clearance, a runway incursion had occurred. I will in the future listen much closer to communications and make wider patterns for visual approachs. I had rushed my first officer and with the checklist being read and my concentration on the approach to the runway (7000 ft) I thought that I had been cleared to land when I had not.

Title: DC9 CREW LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC.

Narrative: WHILE MAKING APCH TO MFE, I RPTED THE ARPT IN SIGHT. APCH CLRED ME FOR A VISUAL AND POINTED OUT TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK ABOVE AND CLBING. I WAS THEN GIVEN TWR FREQ. THE FO WAS HANDLING COMS. WE WERE SCANNING FOR THE TFC AND WERE ON A CLOSE-IN L BASE. I CALLED FOR THE VISUAL APCH CHK, FOLLOWED BY THE LNDG GEAR DOWN AND LNDG CHK. CHKLISTS WERE ACCOMPLISHED AND A NORMAL LNDG WAS COMPLETED. ON ROLLOUT, THE FO INFORMED ME THAT WE HAD NOT RECEIVED LNDG CLRNC. SHE HAD NOT SWITCHED TO THE TWR FREQ. WE THEN CALLED THE TWR. AFTER TAXIING TO THE GATE AND COMPLETING SHUTDOWN AND PARKING CHK, I WENT TO OPS AND CALLED THE TWR. WE DISCUSSED THE EVENTS AND I WAS TOLD THERE HAD BEEN NO CONFLICTS BUT SINCE I HAD LANDED ON THE ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT CLRNC, A RWY INCURSION HAD OCCURRED. I WILL IN THE FUTURE LISTEN MUCH CLOSER TO COMS AND MAKE WIDER PATTERNS FOR VISUAL APCHS. I HAD RUSHED MY FO AND WITH THE CHKLIST BEING READ AND MY CONCENTRATION ON THE APCH TO THE RWY (7000 FT) I THOUGHT THAT I HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND WHEN I HAD NOT.
