Narrative:

While conducting touch-and-goes in established right closed traffic for runway 30R at ZZZ, a gulfstream iv was flying the VOR-a approach into ZZZ after making a touch-and-go. We were flying on the upwind leg of the pattern when the gulfstream passed us at our 9:30 O'clock position. We were completely unaware of his position until he passed dangerously close. There was no time for us to take evasive action. I believe that the careless operation of the gulfstream pilot was a major factor in this near midair collision.
