Narrative:
We were parked closer than normal to terminal due to heavy rain. There is a passenger walkway covered by an awning. After a short ground delay we were reboarded and marshalled out. It was still heavy rain and I had limited space to turn. The aircraft's nosewheel steering was not responding well. The agent signaled me to stop which I did, since we were close to the awning. After stopping he then marshalled me forward. The aircraft was still not turning well to the right. I looked away to the right momentarily as I got the second stop signal, I put on the brakes and collided with the awning pole. The winglet on the tip was destroyed. I should not have let the agent park me so close and I should have backed the aircraft up before attempting such a tight turn.

Title: CAPT OF A BEECH 1900 STRUCK THE GATE AWNING WHEN TAXIING OUT. THE RAMP WAS WET AND THE ACFT PARKED CLOSER THAN NORMAL FOR PAX COMFORT SINCE IT WAS RAINING.
Narrative: WE WERE PARKED CLOSER THAN NORMAL TO TERMINAL DUE TO HVY RAIN. THERE IS A PAX WALKWAY COVERED BY AN AWNING. AFTER A SHORT GND DELAY WE WERE REBOARDED AND MARSHALLED OUT. IT WAS STILL HVY RAIN AND I HAD LIMITED SPACE TO TURN. THE ACFT'S NOSEWHEEL STEERING WAS NOT RESPONDING WELL. THE AGENT SIGNALED ME TO STOP WHICH I DID, SINCE WE WERE CLOSE TO THE AWNING. AFTER STOPPING HE THEN MARSHALLED ME FORWARD. THE ACFT WAS STILL NOT TURNING WELL TO THE R. I LOOKED AWAY TO THE R MOMENTARILY AS I GOT THE SECOND STOP SIGNAL, I PUT ON THE BRAKES AND COLLIDED WITH THE AWNING POLE. THE WINGLET ON THE TIP WAS DESTROYED. I SHOULD NOT HAVE LET THE AGENT PARK ME SO CLOSE AND I SHOULD HAVE BACKED THE ACFT UP BEFORE ATTEMPTING SUCH A TIGHT TURN.
