Narrative:

Approach advised us to speed up from 170 KTS to 200 KTS or 210 KTS if we could do it. I was flying. Approach advised us that they were changing us to ILS runway 26R and then gave us a heading of FL330. We were IMC with light turbulence. I asked for flaps to be retracted from 5 degrees to 2 degrees. Then the heading was adjusted to 310 degrees. At about this time, I noticed that I had allowed the airplane to descend to about 4700 ft and immediately started a climb. Approach controller on a new frequency told us to get right back up to 5000 ft. I did and the remainder of the approach was operations normal.

Title: A B727 FLC RETRACTED LNDG FLAPS TO A LESSER SETTING, AND SETTLED BELOW ASSIGNED ALT ON APCH TO ATL.

Narrative: APCH ADVISED US TO SPD UP FROM 170 KTS TO 200 KTS OR 210 KTS IF WE COULD DO IT. I WAS FLYING. APCH ADVISED US THAT THEY WERE CHANGING US TO ILS RWY 26R AND THEN GAVE US A HDG OF FL330. WE WERE IMC WITH LIGHT TURB. I ASKED FOR FLAPS TO BE RETRACTED FROM 5 DEGS TO 2 DEGS. THEN THE HDG WAS ADJUSTED TO 310 DEGS. AT ABOUT THIS TIME, I NOTICED THAT I HAD ALLOWED THE AIRPLANE TO DSND TO ABOUT 4700 FT AND IMMEDIATELY STARTED A CLB. APCH CTLR ON A NEW FREQ TOLD US TO GET RIGHT BACK UP TO 5000 FT. I DID AND THE REMAINDER OF THE APCH WAS OPS NORMAL.
