Narrative:

We were cleared to intercept a 7 mi final to runway 6 at rsw. While programming the FMC to intercept the final at 7 mi and running the before landing checklist, we missed the controller's instruction to contact the tower. As I was late, we assumed the approach controller and tower controller were the same as it is not unusual late at night.
