Narrative:

First officer switched to ramp frequency while taxiing north on taxiway K to air carrier a ramp. Air carrier B B737 had intended to exit taxiway east ramp in front of our aircraft, but he had to follow us, as we were no longer on ground frequency. First officer believed ground controller had switched him to ramp frequency while still taxiing north on taxiway K. Sometimes they switch you early -- sometimes they don't. It could have happened either way.
