Narrative:

Coming in to anc from kodiak with clearance to FL180 for opposite traffic, anc ATIS was reporting an altimeter setting of 29.44. As we leveled out, our TCASII went off saying 'monitor vertical speed' with the red symbology to not descend from our present altitude. We saw the opposite traffic long before the TCASII advised us, hence we did not feel that the C130 was a threat. We asked center the altitude they showed on us. She said that we were at 17600 ft on her radar. It is at that point that I realized that we should have not accepted this altitude due to the low altimeter setting. We should have requested FL185. The controller on her part should have known better herself than to give us such an altitude.
