Narrative:
I called fmy tower to advise my intent to enter class D airspace and land at fmy. Fmy tower replied 'stand by' no use of n-number. As I approached class D airspace, I again called tower and was again told 'stand by.' I made a 90 degree course change to avoid class D airspace and again called tower. I was again told 'stand by.' shortly thereafter, tower called for identify of an aircraft in my vicinity and I gave my n-number. I was told to identify and contact tower on arrival, I had entered the edge of class D airspace.
