Narrative:

During descent at 12000 ft on mizar arrival to dtw from atl, left engine oil pressure began fluctuating between 35-40 psi, oil quantity dropped to zero, then pressure to below 20 psi. Cockpit operating manual procedures were followed with precautionary shutdown. Emergency was declared. Single engine approach and landing was uneventful. Emergency canceled after clearing runway 21R at dtw. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft had 2 P&west JT8D-9 engines and the loss of oil was due to a bolt backing out of an oil system component. The reporter said that when the aircraft was on the ground and maintenance opened the engine the reporter went back to see what had failed. The reporter stated maintenance pointed out a bolt that backed out of an oil system component resulting in the oil loss. The reporter said maintenance named the component involved but does not remember the name or its function.

Title: A DC9-30 ON DSCNT AT 12000 FT DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO #1 ENG LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND QUANTITY CAUSED BY A BOLT BACKING OUT OF AN OIL SYS COMPONENT.

Narrative: DURING DSCNT AT 12000 FT ON MIZAR ARR TO DTW FROM ATL, L ENG OIL PRESSURE BEGAN FLUCTUATING BTWN 35-40 PSI, OIL QUANTITY DROPPED TO ZERO, THEN PRESSURE TO BELOW 20 PSI. COCKPIT OPERATING MANUAL PROCS WERE FOLLOWED WITH PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN. EMER WAS DECLARED. SINGLE ENG APCH AND LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. EMER CANCELED AFTER CLRING RWY 21R AT DTW. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT HAD 2 P&W JT8D-9 ENGS AND THE LOSS OF OIL WAS DUE TO A BOLT BACKING OUT OF AN OIL SYS COMPONENT. THE RPTR SAID THAT WHEN THE ACFT WAS ON THE GND AND MAINT OPENED THE ENG THE RPTR WENT BACK TO SEE WHAT HAD FAILED. THE RPTR STATED MAINT POINTED OUT A BOLT THAT BACKED OUT OF AN OIL SYS COMPONENT RESULTING IN THE OIL LOSS. THE RPTR SAID MAINT NAMED THE COMPONENT INVOLVED BUT DOES NOT REMEMBER THE NAME OR ITS FUNCTION.
