Narrative:

Departed merritt island (coi). Contacted NASA tower 128.55 requesting low pass on shuttle strip. Given clearance which I misunderstood to be clearance through restr area, flew too far to east entering cape canaveral class D. When informed by tower that I was entering restr area, altered course to west and resumed flight as cleared. Main reason for problem was my unfamiliarity with area, and misunderstanding of clearance. Problem could be prevented by vectoring through area.
