During climb out vectors from lga, 5000 ft was assigned. Sun was in our eyes. Momentarily distraction and noticed we were above 5000 ft, at approximately 5300 ft, approach called and we stated level at 5000 ft. Maximum altitude was approximately 5500 ft. Corrected smoothly so as not to pull no 'G' and leveled at 5000 ft. Estimated deviation less than 1 min, no traffic conflicts.
