Narrative:

I was the PNF. I was off ATC and trying to call our company operations. ATC had cleared us to 8000 ft and direct mopid for the ILS to runway 14. When I came back to ATC we were at 7650 ft. I yelled altitude and climbed the airplane back to 8000 ft. The first officer confused the flight guidance computer and we never heard anything from ATC. The approach and landing continued without incident.
