Narrative:

We were given a clearance to cross 10 NM west of tiroe at 250 KTS and 12000 ft. We entered the information in the FMS and 12000 ft in the altitude window. The aircraft began the descent in plenty of time to make the restr, but it soon thereafter became apparent that we would be slightly high and fast at tiroe. We notified ATC of the situation at the same time the controller noticed it would be close. We never came close to other traffic and the controller was following our descent. It becomes even more obvious after watching automation fail on our FMS to back up everything with raw data, and realize the MD88 can be difficult to descend and slow. Supplemental information from acn 422301: used FMS for descent and was all set, briefed the approach. After brief, noticed we be high and fast. Actually crossed at 12000 ft and 300 KTS, approximately.

Title: MD88 CREW DID NOT COMPLY WITH THEIR SPD RESTR AT AN INTXN.

Narrative: WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO CROSS 10 NM W OF TIROE AT 250 KTS AND 12000 FT. WE ENTERED THE INFO IN THE FMS AND 12000 FT IN THE ALT WINDOW. THE ACFT BEGAN THE DSCNT IN PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE THE RESTR, BUT IT SOON THEREAFTER BECAME APPARENT THAT WE WOULD BE SLIGHTLY HIGH AND FAST AT TIROE. WE NOTIFIED ATC OF THE SIT AT THE SAME TIME THE CTLR NOTICED IT WOULD BE CLOSE. WE NEVER CAME CLOSE TO OTHER TFC AND THE CTLR WAS FOLLOWING OUR DSCNT. IT BECOMES EVEN MORE OBVIOUS AFTER WATCHING AUTOMATION FAIL ON OUR FMS TO BACK UP EVERYTHING WITH RAW DATA, AND REALIZE THE MD88 CAN BE DIFFICULT TO DSND AND SLOW. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 422301: USED FMS FOR DSCNT AND WAS ALL SET, BRIEFED THE APCH. AFTER BRIEF, NOTICED WE BE HIGH AND FAST. ACTUALLY CROSSED AT 12000 FT AND 300 KTS, APPROX.
