Narrative:

Cleared for takeoff on runway 1L at sfo. Taxied into position on the overrun at the very end. Spooled engines, released brakes. Power was flx 50, we were light. Tower called, said 'cancel takeoff clearance.' we'd rolled only about 200 ft. There was an aircraft landing and they must have thought it would be too close. We used very light braking, brake temperatures were still normal. I asked the copilot to check the runway remaining and allowable takeoff gross weight. We both concluded there was still plenty of runway remaining as we were only around 50 ft past threshold near intersection H. We had taken the runway at taxiway M. Tower cleared us for takeoff and we decided to use normal power instead of flx. We lifted off crossing the runways 28 as normal departure. Looking back, it would have been safer to taxi back to taxiway M. But I let myself get rushed. On the way down to lax, talking it over, we both decided that had something happened, it would have been pretty stupid to leave runway behind us. Also, by the letter of the law, the allowable takeoff gross weights wouldn't have been valid for takeoff as they only apply from the exact threshold to the end (we were about 50 ft past). Lots of times when we line up, I roll 50 ft past prior to getting full power set. In the future, I am going to make every effort to get the maximum runway for takeoff and not let complacency slip in. We (my first officer and me) both learned from the incident. The departure and arrival into lax was normal.

Title: AN ACR PIC PERFORMS A TKOF WHILE 50 FT BEYOND THE STARTING POINT FOR ACCURATE BALANCED RWY TKOF DATA. HIS ORIGINAL, FIRST, TKOF CLRNC HAD BEEN CANCELED AFTER A TKOF ROLL OF ABOUT 200 FT.

Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 1L AT SFO. TAXIED INTO POS ON THE OVERRUN AT THE VERY END. SPOOLED ENGS, RELEASED BRAKES. PWR WAS FLX 50, WE WERE LIGHT. TWR CALLED, SAID 'CANCEL TKOF CLRNC.' WE'D ROLLED ONLY ABOUT 200 FT. THERE WAS AN ACFT LNDG AND THEY MUST HAVE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE TOO CLOSE. WE USED VERY LIGHT BRAKING, BRAKE TEMPS WERE STILL NORMAL. I ASKED THE COPLT TO CHK THE RWY REMAINING AND ALLOWABLE TKOF GROSS WT. WE BOTH CONCLUDED THERE WAS STILL PLENTY OF RWY REMAINING AS WE WERE ONLY AROUND 50 FT PAST THRESHOLD NEAR INTXN H. WE HAD TAKEN THE RWY AT TXWY M. TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF AND WE DECIDED TO USE NORMAL PWR INSTEAD OF FLX. WE LIFTED OFF XING THE RWYS 28 AS NORMAL DEP. LOOKING BACK, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SAFER TO TAXI BACK TO TXWY M. BUT I LET MYSELF GET RUSHED. ON THE WAY DOWN TO LAX, TALKING IT OVER, WE BOTH DECIDED THAT HAD SOMETHING HAPPENED, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PRETTY STUPID TO LEAVE RWY BEHIND US. ALSO, BY THE LETTER OF THE LAW, THE ALLOWABLE TKOF GROSS WTS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN VALID FOR TKOF AS THEY ONLY APPLY FROM THE EXACT THRESHOLD TO THE END (WE WERE ABOUT 50 FT PAST). LOTS OF TIMES WHEN WE LINE UP, I ROLL 50 FT PAST PRIOR TO GETTING FULL PWR SET. IN THE FUTURE, I AM GOING TO MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO GET THE MAX RWY FOR TKOF AND NOT LET COMPLACENCY SLIP IN. WE (MY FO AND ME) BOTH LEARNED FROM THE INCIDENT. THE DEP AND ARR INTO LAX WAS NORMAL.
