Narrative:

Sfo takeoff runway 19R. Dumbarton 6 departure. Note on procedure 'runways 19L/right departure turn left due to steeply rising terrain to 2000 ft immediately south of airport.' airbus A319 took off with 'navigation' armed. At 400 ft, navigation engaged, however, flight director never commanded a turn. Tower issued warning to turn left to avoid terrain. Selected 'heading' and turned. At times we can be complacent with FMS aircraft. At all times I plan to be more diligent concerning situational awareness and not blindly follow unsafe flight director commands.
