Narrative:

While returning to the airport at dusk, I checked the AWOS and listened to the CTAF. My landing light was on. There were 3 planes in the pattern and 3 were waiting to take off on runway 17. I announced my location as 1 mi south of the field and that I was entering the pattern behind the cessna #1 that just turned from crosswind to downwind. The cessna #1 downwind was extended longer than normally done, I suspect to give room to a plane on final ahead of him. In the dusk, I was trying to keep him in sight so I wouldn't turn in front of him. After he turned final, I announced I was turning base. At that moment I saw cessna #2 passing at 1 O'clock about 150 ft away. As I quickly turned left onto base, I saw cessna #2 was also beginning a right turn. I kept the speed up at 100-105 mph to give me some distance from the cessna #2 because I didn't know if he had seen me. I reported my position on base and final. I kept the speed up till I reached the threshold and slowed and landed. Meanwhile, the other planes in the pattern continued to report their position, but no others had reported on final. There are no txwys on runway 17, so after I touched down I knew I would have to continue to the end of the runway about 3000 ft away. Since I didn't know if the cessna #2 had seen me, I decided to exit the runway to the right side, outside of the runway lights. I turned the plane and saw the cessna #2 at about 30 ft over the threshold of the runway. At that point he executed a go around. I then taxied back outside of the runway lights toward the approach end of the runway. 2 cessnas, #3 and #4, took the runway and departed. After crossing the runway, I was able to hear one plane transmitting just carrier with no voice. Taxiing back to the hangars, I checked my landing light and radio with unicom, both were operating satisfactorily. While tying down my plane, the neighboring C177 taxied up and the owner got out of the right side with the engine still running and began speaking into a handheld. After his daughter shut the engine down, he said his new intercom wasn't working. When his daughter used the handheld microphone she was able to transmit. He said he wasn't able to land with me still on the runway and that I shouldn't have taxied back. He said he had me in sight when they 'turned into the 45 degree entry.' I said I didn't see them until I began my base turn and that I didn't know if they had seen me so I wanted to get off the runway as soon as possible. Lessons learned: 1) I could have broken out of the pattern and come back in since it did seem like cessna #2 was heading in to land. 2) I could have landed long to minimize the time on the runway. 3) I should not have taxied back, which confused the other pilots waiting for takeoff. 4) I should not have focused on just watching the plane ahead of me in the pattern.

Title: AA1 AND C177 HAD NMAC AT AN UNCTLED ARPT. AA1 PLT THEN CAUSED THE C177 TO GO AROUND.

Narrative: WHILE RETURNING TO THE ARPT AT DUSK, I CHKED THE AWOS AND LISTENED TO THE CTAF. MY LNDG LIGHT WAS ON. THERE WERE 3 PLANES IN THE PATTERN AND 3 WERE WAITING TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 17. I ANNOUNCED MY LOCATION AS 1 MI S OF THE FIELD AND THAT I WAS ENTERING THE PATTERN BEHIND THE CESSNA #1 THAT JUST TURNED FROM XWIND TO DOWNWIND. AS I QUICKLY TURNED L ONTO BASE, I SAW CESSNA #2 WAS ALSO BEGINNING A R TURN. I KEPT THE SPD UP AT 100-105 MPH TO GIVE ME SOME DISTANCE FROM THE CESSNA #2 BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW IF HE HAD SEEN ME. I RPTED MY POS ON BASE AND FINAL. I KEPT THE SPD UP TILL I REACHED THE THRESHOLD AND SLOWED AND LANDED. MEANWHILE, THE OTHER PLANES IN THE PATTERN CONTINUED TO RPT THEIR POS, BUT NO OTHERS HAD RPTED ON FINAL. THERE ARE NO TXWYS ON RWY 17, SO AFTER I TOUCHED DOWN I KNEW I WOULD HAVE TO CONTINUE TO THE END OF THE RWY ABOUT 3000 FT AWAY. SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW IF THE CESSNA #2 HAD SEEN ME, I DECIDED TO EXIT THE RWY TO THE R SIDE, OUTSIDE OF THE RWY LIGHTS. I TURNED THE PLANE AND SAW THE CESSNA #2 AT ABOUT 30 FT OVER THE THRESHOLD OF THE RWY. AT THAT POINT HE EXECUTED A GAR. I THEN TAXIED BACK OUTSIDE OF THE RWY LIGHTS TOWARD THE APCH END OF THE RWY. 2 CESSNAS, #3 AND #4, TOOK THE RWY AND DEPARTED. AFTER XING THE RWY, I WAS ABLE TO HEAR ONE PLANE XMITTING JUST CARRIER WITH NO VOICE. TAXIING BACK TO THE HANGARS, I CHKED MY LNDG LIGHT AND RADIO WITH UNICOM, BOTH WERE OPERATING SATISFACTORILY. WHILE TYING DOWN MY PLANE, THE NEIGHBORING C177 TAXIED UP AND THE OWNER GOT OUT OF THE R SIDE WITH THE ENG STILL RUNNING AND BEGAN SPEAKING INTO A HANDHELD. AFTER HIS DAUGHTER SHUT THE ENG DOWN, HE SAID HIS NEW INTERCOM WASN'T WORKING. WHEN HIS DAUGHTER USED THE HANDHELD MIKE SHE WAS ABLE TO XMIT. HE SAID HE WASN'T ABLE TO LAND WITH ME STILL ON THE RWY AND THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TAXIED BACK. HE SAID HE HAD ME IN SIGHT WHEN THEY 'TURNED INTO THE 45 DEG ENTRY.' I SAID I DIDN'T SEE THEM UNTIL I BEGAN MY BASE TURN AND THAT I DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY HAD SEEN ME SO I WANTED TO GET OFF THE RWY ASAP. LESSONS LEARNED: 1) I COULD HAVE BROKEN OUT OF THE PATTERN AND COME BACK IN SINCE IT DID SEEM LIKE CESSNA #2 WAS HDG IN TO LAND. 2) I COULD HAVE LANDED LONG TO MINIMIZE THE TIME ON THE RWY. 3) I SHOULD NOT HAVE TAXIED BACK, WHICH CONFUSED THE OTHER PLTS WAITING FOR TKOF. 4) I SHOULD NOT HAVE FOCUSED ON JUST WATCHING THE PLANE AHEAD OF ME IN THE PATTERN.
