Narrative:

Climbing through FL180, left engine began to run rough. We declared an emergency and decided to divert to gallup, NM. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the engine roughness was intermittent and was very noticeable and with no delay the decision was made to divert. The reporter said the work performed at the diverting station was replacement of the fuel control module. The reporter stated the next day another crew flew the aircraft and returned with the same report and the aircraft was grounded. The reporter said maintenance found a chaffed wire that when grounded, pwred the propeller feathering circuit.

Title: A DHC8-200 CLBING THROUGH FL180 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO #1 ENG RUNNING ROUGH CAUSED BY A CHAFFED WIRE IN THE PROP FEATHER CIRCUIT.

Narrative: CLBING THROUGH FL180, L ENG BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH. WE DECLARED AN EMER AND DECIDED TO DIVERT TO GALLUP, NM. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ENG ROUGHNESS WAS INTERMITTENT AND WAS VERY NOTICEABLE AND WITH NO DELAY THE DECISION WAS MADE TO DIVERT. THE RPTR SAID THE WORK PERFORMED AT THE DIVERTING STATION WAS REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL CTL MODULE. THE RPTR STATED THE NEXT DAY ANOTHER CREW FLEW THE ACFT AND RETURNED WITH THE SAME RPT AND THE ACFT WAS GNDED. THE RPTR SAID MAINT FOUND A CHAFFED WIRE THAT WHEN GNDED, PWRED THE PROP FEATHERING CIRCUIT.
