Narrative:

After agents left, the flight attendant closed door and told me we were ready to go. I contacted tug driver. We completed checklist and we received ATC clearance for push. I said to driver 'ok, brakes released, cleared to push.' shortly after beginning push, we knew we hit something. The catering truck was still parked at aft galley. Wing walker was present. Catering truck was pushed up on 2 wheels, but only driver was in truck and unharmed. Aircraft flap sustained substantial damage. Supplemental information from acn 417738: there were 2 wing walkers, 1 on each tip. They apparently weren't watching too well. Callback conversation with reporter acn 417959 revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft was an md super 80 and sustained substantial left flap damage. The reporter stated the aircraft was ready for dispatch with all preflight cockpit checks completed. The reporter said the cabin doors were closed and all warning lights out and the tug operator was advised the brakes were released and ready for pushback. The reporter stated the cabin attendants attempted to warn the cockpit of the catering truck still parked against the aft back door but were a little late. The reporter said the left wing walker was fired and the catering truck driver was not cited.
