Narrative:

When I checked to verify that the SID was still the sfo 8 departure to lin, I did not notice the changed route between lin and ilc. At sonny when the controller questioned our turn towards oal and we caught the changed routing. No separation was lost and the controller said that there was no problem. Pre departure clearance's can be a real gotcha when a change to the routing is buried between the SID and the then as filed. I recommend that whenever the pre departure clearance changes the filed route of flight, it ought to state something to the effect of 'change route to' or 'this is an amended route.'

Title: WDB CREW DID NOT CAREFULLY CHK PDC ROUTING AND MISSED A SEGMENT THAT HAD BEEN AMENDED ON AN SFO 8 SID.

Narrative: WHEN I CHKED TO VERIFY THAT THE SID WAS STILL THE SFO 8 DEP TO LIN, I DID NOT NOTICE THE CHANGED RTE BTWN LIN AND ILC. AT SONNY WHEN THE CTLR QUESTIONED OUR TURN TOWARDS OAL AND WE CAUGHT THE CHANGED ROUTING. NO SEPARATION WAS LOST AND THE CTLR SAID THAT THERE WAS NO PROB. PDC'S CAN BE A REAL GOTCHA WHEN A CHANGE TO THE ROUTING IS BURIED BTWN THE SID AND THE THEN AS FILED. I RECOMMEND THAT WHENEVER THE PDC CHANGES THE FILED RTE OF FLT, IT OUGHT TO STATE SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF 'CHANGE RTE TO' OR 'THIS IS AN AMENDED RTE.'
