Narrative:

Captain was taxiing while I was running taxi checklist. Ground had told us to taxi across runway 5R at cle and hold short of runway 5L. The captain went past the hold short line. Nothing was said by the controller, and we were then cleared into position on runway 5L. It was probably nothing, but the captain did inform me he had gone over the hold short line. It is a little funny at cle, because to hold short of runway 5L you would still be sticking out on runway 5R. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: pilot stated there is no way to hold at the first hold line after crossing runway 5R without having the tail of the aircraft stick out on runway 5R. The first officer is new to the cle airport so was unfamiliar with this trap. Pilot thinks that if required to hold, it should be between the runways. When crossing runway 5R at taxiway north, the logical place to hold for runway 5L is just prior to runway 5L. The reversing of the hold lines makes cle different than all other airports the pilot flies into.

Title: EMBRAER EMB145RJ CREW WAS CLRED TO CROSS RWY 5R TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5L AT CLE. THE CAPT TAXIED PAST THE FIRST HOLD LINE THEREBY CAUSING A RWY INCURSION ON RWY 5L.

Narrative: CAPT WAS TAXIING WHILE I WAS RUNNING TAXI CHKLIST. GND HAD TOLD US TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 5R AT CLE AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5L. THE CAPT WENT PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE. NOTHING WAS SAID BY THE CTLR, AND WE WERE THEN CLRED INTO POS ON RWY 5L. IT WAS PROBABLY NOTHING, BUT THE CAPT DID INFORM ME HE HAD GONE OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE. IT IS A LITTLE FUNNY AT CLE, BECAUSE TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5L YOU WOULD STILL BE STICKING OUT ON RWY 5R. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: PLT STATED THERE IS NO WAY TO HOLD AT THE FIRST HOLD LINE AFTER XING RWY 5R WITHOUT HAVING THE TAIL OF THE ACFT STICK OUT ON RWY 5R. THE FO IS NEW TO THE CLE ARPT SO WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS TRAP. PLT THINKS THAT IF REQUIRED TO HOLD, IT SHOULD BE BTWN THE RWYS. WHEN XING RWY 5R AT TXWY N, THE LOGICAL PLACE TO HOLD FOR RWY 5L IS JUST PRIOR TO RWY 5L. THE REVERSING OF THE HOLD LINES MAKES CLE DIFFERENT THAN ALL OTHER ARPTS THE PLT FLIES INTO.
