Narrative:

My student was practicing lndgs on a short field. Several lndgs had already been made. This landing was made a little long and upon touchdown excessive braking caused the left main tire to blow out. I helped to maintain control as the aircraft left the centerline. The aircraft, as it slowed down, left the runway on the left side and the left main hit a rut in the sod. The left main then folded aft, with the aircraft skidding just clear of the runway. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the incident occurred at maple lake airport, mn (Y33). No injuries. Only damage to the aircraft was to the left main gear.
