Narrative:

On a deadhead flight from bjc to ord, I was giving training to a newly hired pilot. He has just recently gone through initial training at a training center. The chicago area was moderately busy. While on final approach to runway 22R at ord, while observing the new hire very closely, I may have failed to make contact with the tower at the OM. I remember switching over to the frequency and there was other communications going on at the time. About that time the PF asked me a question about the approach, and I answered him. I don't remember contacting the tower. Traffic ahead of us approximately 3 mi landed and cleared the runway. Not realizing at the time we may not have been in contact, we made a normal landing, exited the runway and was instructed by the tower to contact ground control. Nothing was mentioned by tower or ground, and it was after we got to parking before I realized what may have occurred. If we were given landing clearance, I don't remember. I feel I was distraction from my job by observing too closely what the new pilot was doing. No one was in danger and maybe the tower didn't think anything of it, I don't know but nothing was made of the situation. Everything on the approach and landing was so routine I possibly made contact with tower but am not sure, because my mind was on what the PF was doing.

Title: AN LTT LNDG AT ORD IS UNSURE IF TWR GAVE 'CLRED TO LAND' XMISSION, WHEN LNDG.

Narrative: ON A DEADHEAD FLT FROM BJC TO ORD, I WAS GIVING TRAINING TO A NEWLY HIRED PLT. HE HAS JUST RECENTLY GONE THROUGH INITIAL TRAINING AT A TRAINING CTR. THE CHICAGO AREA WAS MODERATELY BUSY. WHILE ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 22R AT ORD, WHILE OBSERVING THE NEW HIRE VERY CLOSELY, I MAY HAVE FAILED TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE TWR AT THE OM. I REMEMBER SWITCHING OVER TO THE FREQ AND THERE WAS OTHER COMS GOING ON AT THE TIME. ABOUT THAT TIME THE PF ASKED ME A QUESTION ABOUT THE APCH, AND I ANSWERED HIM. I DON'T REMEMBER CONTACTING THE TWR. TFC AHEAD OF US APPROX 3 MI LANDED AND CLRED THE RWY. NOT REALIZING AT THE TIME WE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT, WE MADE A NORMAL LNDG, EXITED THE RWY AND WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR TO CONTACT GND CTL. NOTHING WAS MENTIONED BY TWR OR GND, AND IT WAS AFTER WE GOT TO PARKING BEFORE I REALIZED WHAT MAY HAVE OCCURRED. IF WE WERE GIVEN LNDG CLRNC, I DON'T REMEMBER. I FEEL I WAS DISTR FROM MY JOB BY OBSERVING TOO CLOSELY WHAT THE NEW PLT WAS DOING. NO ONE WAS IN DANGER AND MAYBE THE TWR DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT, I DON'T KNOW BUT NOTHING WAS MADE OF THE SIT. EVERYTHING ON THE APCH AND LNDG WAS SO ROUTINE I POSSIBLY MADE CONTACT WITH TWR BUT AM NOT SURE, BECAUSE MY MIND WAS ON WHAT THE PF WAS DOING.
