Narrative:

While in cruise, got indication of an 'a' hydraulic system overheat. Followed procedures. Advised maintenance and dispatch. Called amber alert for denver landing. Fire equipment standing by for landing. After uneventful landing, cleared runway, shut down engines, and was towed to gate. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft was a B727-200 and maintenance reported the overheat was a false warning caused by a failed thermoswitch in the 'a' system return line.

CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS A B727-200 AND MAINT RPTED THE OVERHEAT WAS A FALSE WARNING CAUSED BY A FAILED THERMOSWITCH IN THE 'A' SYS RETURN LINE.
