Narrative:

We were given a visual approach to runway 17L at dfw. My first officer (1200 hours total, 75 hours EMB120) was flying. We were at 5000 ft, on short base and cleared #1 for the airport. We were trying to get it down. We were a little behind but ok. The WX was about 8 mi visibility with light to moderate chop. The controller was very busy and apparently forgot to hand us over to tower. We were busy setting up approach confign and didn't realize that we had not checked on with tower. We realized we were on approach control on rollout. We tried to ask tower for clearance to go to ground. He informed that he was trying to call us and to hold short of runway 17C on the other tower frequency at dfw.
