Narrative:

Takeoff gross weight was 174000 pounds and it was a hot day. We were climbing on the ord departure and did not advise ATC that we would be close on the crossing restr of 4000 ft at 8 DME. At approximately 7.5 DME, we were given a right turn from 180 degrees to 240 degrees and expedite climb through 4000 ft. We complied, reduced speed and ended up crossing 8 DME at about 3500 ft and reached 4000 ft approximately 8.5 DME. I last flew the B737-300 which never has a problem with this restr. In addition, it would help me reinforce the restr if it were prominently and graphically depicted on the departure plate. Most of my departures from ord have not had to deal with this climbing crossing restr.

Title: B727 CREW DID NOT MAKE CHARTED ALT XING RESTR.

Narrative: TKOF GROSS WT WAS 174000 LBS AND IT WAS A HOT DAY. WE WERE CLBING ON THE ORD DEP AND DID NOT ADVISE ATC THAT WE WOULD BE CLOSE ON THE XING RESTR OF 4000 FT AT 8 DME. AT APPROX 7.5 DME, WE WERE GIVEN A R TURN FROM 180 DEGS TO 240 DEGS AND EXPEDITE CLB THROUGH 4000 FT. WE COMPLIED, REDUCED SPD AND ENDED UP XING 8 DME AT ABOUT 3500 FT AND REACHED 4000 FT APPROX 8.5 DME. I LAST FLEW THE B737-300 WHICH NEVER HAS A PROB WITH THIS RESTR. IN ADDITION, IT WOULD HELP ME REINFORCE THE RESTR IF IT WERE PROMINENTLY AND GRAPHICALLY DEPICTED ON THE DEP PLATE. MOST OF MY DEPS FROM ORD HAVE NOT HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS CLBING XING RESTR.
